Reverse: VICTORIA AVGUS, cross potent, in exergue below, CONOB. Philippicus' given name Vardan, and was born in Armenia. His brief reign was marked by his quarrels with the papacy and his ineffectiveness in defending the empire from Bulgar and Arab invaders. Sear 1452. D.O. 6, B.M.C 8.
