Description:

Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. An attractive and very unusual oil lamp carved from a single piece of grey schist, the form a variant of a quatrefoil resembling a stylized flower or four-leaf clover, the four corner lobes/leaves serving as receptacles for wicks, the alternating smaller perforated protruding pointed sections presumably created for suspension. In the center is a three-quarter inch deep circular receptacle for the oil adorned with a surrounding flat rim incised with an attractive cross-hatched design. Size: 4" L x 4" W x 1.125" H (10.2 cm x 10.2 cm x 2.9 cm)
