Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico City region, Aztec, ca. 1300 to 1521 CE. A delightful and rare ceramic model of a temple, its surface brightly painted. The temple features tall, steep steps and a narrow platform at its midpoint; above that is a huge finial with three water droplet symbols on it, similar to those shown on the temple illustration in the Codex Duran. Red, blue, and white pigment colors the buff clay of the model, which is open behind the central platform, perhaps so its owner could place votive offerings into it. Size: 2.5" W x 4.25" H (6.4 cm x 10.8 cm)
