Description:

Pre-Columbian, Aztec, 15th - early 16th century. A magnificently rare pair of obsidian ear spools, impressive for their fine artistry, unusual medium, and painstaking technique. The Metropolitan Museum of Art boasts a similar example in its collection; however, their collection does not include a pair. The medium of obsidian is rare and quite difficult to work. In this case, the artisan possessed unparalleled skill and created a handsome pair of ear ornaments boasting a rich black hue and lustrous finish. Such wearable art was most likely once worn by an Aztec nobleman held in the utmost respect! 1"D x 3/8"W and 7/8"D x 3/8"W
