Description:

Greece, ca. 4th century BCE. This is a small bronze statuette of a lion with a deep green and reddish brown patina. The lion stands on a thin platform head up, with a glorious mane and perked ears. Lions are often the fierce stars of Greek stories, like the Nemean lion, and it is probable that the sculptors of these little pieces saw lions in real life: Aristotle and Herodotus tell us that lions lived in the Balkans and Greece until around the 1st century BCE! Size: 1.9" L x 1.65" W x 1.7" H (4.8 cm x 4.2 cm x 4.3 cm)
