Description:

Ancient Near East, Anatolian/Cycladic, ca. late 4th to early 3rd millennium BCE. A wonderful example of a Cycladic bronze idol in a form known as "violin" for obvious reasons. A rounded body with a slightly raised "arm" on its face, a thin neck, and a rounded head devoid of any facial features but with a large hole punched through it, all suggest an anthropomorphic form with a single, all-seeing eye. The meaning and function of Cycladic idols remains an enigma without any written records from this era. Most are made from marble or terracotta, so a bronze example like this is one of exceptional rarity. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 2.2" W x 4.125" H (5.6 cm x 10.5 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
