Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Amlash culture, ca. 1400 to 1100 BCE. An intriguing and rare cast leaded-bronze effigy figure of a stylized form. The person stands upright on legs fused together. He holds a five pointed shield or weapon in one hand, and part of a rod, perhaps once part of a sword, in the other hand. The head faces forward with a protruding nose, and two oversized eyes are applied to the sides of the nasal ridge. Atop the forehead is a pointed spike, likely representing part of a helmet or headdress. A rich green and brown patina envelops the surface. During the early Iron Age, when this would have been made, bronzes like this were deposited in stone-built graves and shrines. This figure may have represented a deity or protective warrior figure. Size: 0.8" W x 3.5" H (2 cm x 8.9 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.
