Description:

Native American, North America, southern Arizona, Salt River Valley area, Hohokam culture, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A fabulous effigy of a characteristically stylized form that is carved from porous, lightweight stone. The surfaces are meticulously pecked to achieve a standing form with a cleft between the bulky legs, thick arms held to the waist, and a stocky chest that narrows slightly to form the neckline. The elongated, conical head features protruding discoid eyes, full lips, and an incised groove around the brow. Remains of red pigment around the head and body suggest this figure was adorned with bright colors at one time. Size: 3.625" W x 9.25" H (9.2 cm x 23.5 cm)

Provenance: private Glorieta, New Mexico, USA collection, purchased in 2015 at Arrowhead and Fossil Show, Temple, Texas, USA
