Description:

Indonesia, Borneo, Central Kalimantan, Dayak peoples, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. An amusing swinging monkey, hand-carved from hardwood, with minimalist simian features. The monkey figure boasts a bulbous body from which hang a pair of sinuous curved legs, with lengthy perforated arms stretched above the blocky head, and all covered in traces of chalky-white pigmentation. The monkey swings playfully from a horizontal bar, imbuing the figure with an adorable and lively presentation. Dayak simian figures are typically depicted in seated or standing poses, so this dynamic example is one of exceptional rarity. Custom museum-quality stand included. Size: 1" W x 9.125" H (2.5 cm x 23.2 cm); 12.125" H (30.8 cm) on included custom stand.
