Description:

North America, late 19th century CE. This is an oil lantern for a ship, made to be hoisted atop a mast and lit to indicate that a ship is at anchor. Twin handles and a heavy glass bulb complete the design. When lit, it would have displayed a white light. These types of lamps have been phased out in recent years as ships move away from brass and copper components, making this type of lantern particularly difficult to find. An excellent nautical touch! Size: 9.5" W x 18.75" H (24.1 cm x 47.6 cm)
