Central America, Panama, San Blas Islands, Kuna / Cuna, ca. 1950 CE. Very rare walking stick carved of dark hardwood. At the top stands a soldier at attention holding a rifle in his right hand, a baton or other weapon in his left. In typical Kuna style the figure has a very angular face with brimmed hat. At the middle of the stick is a carved crucifix in high relief with the hands of Jesus sticking well out to the sides. A most interesting example not often found! Size: 37" L (94 cm)
