Description:

Northern Africa, Morocco, ca. late 18th to 19th century. Rare powder horn used by cavalry troops to allow these to be held around the neck and lay flat against either the neck of a horse or camel. Cone-shaped container covered with circular copper tacks over leather covering of a wood core with twin star-shaped arms at top, long copper fill spout decorated with repousse pattern. Old leather pouch which once held lead balls. A very similar example is in The MET, Arms and Armor Collection, Accession Number: 36.25.2382. This example has old accession number on reverse: 38.22d, Size: 8" W x 11" H (20.3 cm x 27.9 cm)
