Description:

South Pacific, New Caledonia, Kanak people, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A rare gourd container, the natural form repurposed for processing and carrying liquids, its surface covered in decorative criss-crossing broad sections of woven sennit. These decorative weaves encircle the near-spherical body of the hollowed gourd, which also has a natural spout-like opening on its top. A thinly woven sennit handle extends in a loop from the top of the vessel. Size: 6.1" W x 9.75" H (15.5 cm x 24.8 cm)
