Description:

Spain, 14th to 16th century. Rare and fascinating pottery canteen or flask. Circular form on slightly flattened base with central raised lug perforated to each side and attached spout with screwed on cap, suspension ring at the top. Vessel covered with deep yellow lead glazed decorated with three simple floral designs in brown inside brown border along with two additional brown borders. Reverse left reserved in yellow although some of the brown glazed flowed under the "feet." Size: 5.125" W x 8.25" H (13 cm x 21 cm)

XRF analysis shows the glaze is lead based and top is a combination of tin and lead, an early form of pewter.
