Description:

**Originally Listed At $800**

Ancient Near East, Islamic, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A stunning pattern-molded glass bottle of translucent green hues. Its form is comprised of a cylindrical body presenting stylized peacock feather motifs, a curved shoulder, and a tall conical neck that flares to a wide mouth with an unpronounced smooth rim. Imbuing the vessel with even more beauty is the marvelous iridescence of pink, purple, yellow, and aqua hues that has developed over the ages. There is also a pontil scar on the base, indicating that this piece, though pattern molded, was actually hand-blown. Size: 2" in diameter at widest point x 7.375" H (5.1 cm x 18.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Dere Family Collection, NY acquired in 1980's-2000's

  • Condition: Internal bubbles in the glass matrix that originated when the piece was created. Weathering film on interior and beautiful rainbow iridescence. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.
