Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, late 19th-early 20th century. Called a "coconut rabbit" due to its resemblance to an endearing bunny, this rabbit coconut grater is carved from wood as a recumbent rabbit and fitted with a long metal grater extending from its mouth. Coconut has traditionally been used to create the most delicious fresh curries, desserts, and beverages in Thailand and coconut graters have customarily been used in the preparation of such delectable delights. This example boasts a plump and rounded form with nicely graduated contours, finely incised details, as well as the remains of dusty blue and cream colored paint. He is most definitely "Peter Rabbit"; note the delineation of male genitalia on the underside. 20"L x 6-3/4"W x 7-3/8"H
