Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca / Quimbaya culture, ca. 4th to 7th century CE. A wonderful hand-built pottery slab figure with tubular arms and legs. The figure is seated upon a wide posterior as both arms bend to rest neatly atop the thighs. Thick incised bands delineate hands from arms and arms from shoulders. The ancient figure's rectangular head boasts a stylized visage featuring sizable, slit-form eyes, a bulbous nose with a pierced septum meant to hold additional ornamentation, a straight mouth, pointed chin, and four pierced holes that line the forehead. Three additional drill holes are placed on the torso, indicating the nipples and navel. Size: 5.25" W x 7" H (13.3 cm x 17.8 cm); 7.25" H (18.4 cm) on included custom stand.
