Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful set of four hand-built pottery figures from two prominent and ancient Mesoamerican cultures. First is a standing Jalisco "sheepface" figure with attenuated limbs, a slender torso, and a face comprised of a prominent nose, perky ears, and a tall forehead. Next are three Colima standing "gingerbread" figures - named for their thin bodies - with delineated legs and genitalia, sinuous arms, and simplistic faces, all in varying light-orange hues. A wonderful ensemble! Size of largest (Colima): 3.2" W x 5.625" H (8.1 cm x 14.3 cm).
