Pre-Columbian, Chavín Culture, Central Coast of Peru, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. This is a carved volcanic stone showing a face in relief with deepset eyes and a prominent nose. In Chavín, a bustling ceremonial center occupied for centuries, we can see the beginnings of the cultures that would eventually become part of the Inca sphere. Custom base included. Size: 13" L x 10" W x 10" H (33 cm x 25.4 cm x 25.4 cm).
