Description:

Roman Gaul (France)/Western Roman Empire, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A delightful silver-washed, cast bronze fibula or brooch in the form of a standing human figure wearing a long robe. The figure wears a flat cap or has a raised, dome-like coiffure. The features of the face are clear, as are the details of the clothing. Feugere (see below) classified this form as a 29a. Two similar are known, one from Vieil-Evreux, Cracouville, and another from St-Marcel, Les Mersans. This is a fascinating and rare artifact that would have been used to fasten a piece of ancient clothing! Size: 0.45" W x 1.05" H (1.1 cm x 2.7 cm); 2" H (5.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Published in "Les Fibules en Gaule Meridionale" by Michel Feugere, Revue Archeologique de Narbonnaise Supplement 12, 1985, pgs. 388 & 413.
