Rome, ca. 3rd century CE. A Roman marble fragment, likely from a sarcophagus, depicting a bearded male head, perhaps the mythological king Agamemnon. Hair detail is drilled, with headband across top of head and mouth depicted slightly open. 7-1/2" x 9" x 5-1/8". Provenance: Ex-Prominent New York City, NY Gallery; Ex-Harlan Berk, 110th Buy or Bid Sale, 8 September, 1999, lot 923. Published in Harlan J. Berk, Ancient Art (Chicago, 1987).
