Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. Wow! A stunning, elegant necklace composed of a 21 karat gold chain studded with six polygonal beads and one ovoid brick red carnelian bead. The chain has figure-eight shaped links interspersed with the beads at regular intervals, and the hook-and-eye clasp is decorated with small scrolls of gold wire. The overall effect is simple but eye-catching, and this example of expert Roman craftsmanship is still wearable. Length of chain: 14" L (35.6 cm); size of largest bead: 0.4" W (1 cm); 8.7 grams

  • Condition: Very light deposits on some of the gold, notably the hook of the clasp. In gorgeous condition and the clasp is easy to open and shut, making it wearable, although be careful with bending the gold too much as ancient metal can become fragile.
