Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery female figure of a highly stylized form presenting nude while seated upon 2 conical legs and 2 conical protuberances on the verso. Adorned in hues of citrine and cream over a russet ground, the figure leans forward with both arms curved beneath her perky breasts and dons a massive, stippled pectoral ornament that drapes down her chest and back. Her elongated head exhibits coffee bean-shaped eyes, a slender nose above pursed lips, and tab-shaped ears, all beneath a finely striated coiffure. A vent hole is situated above her head to facilitate the firing process. Size: 7" W x 11.3" H (17.8 cm x 28.7 cm)
