Description:

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A delicate vase of miniature form that is hand-carved from banded alabaster of tan and beige hues. The slender vial features a relatively flat base, a lozenge-shaped body with a tapered shoulder groove, and a projecting disc beneath a rising rim that perhaps accommodated a lid at one time. Vessels like this example would have held precious scented oils or cosmetic material for women to use after bathing as indicated by scenes on ancient vases depicting them in use. Size: 0.8" W x 3" H (2 cm x 7.6 cm)
