Description:

Native American, Scioto County Ohio, Middle Woodland Hopewell, ca. 100 BCE to 500 CE. Carved from a grey stone, a bird effigy platform pipe, highly polished and replete with wonderful details: partially drilled eyes, a protruding beak, incised wings, tailfeathers, zigzagged plumage on the legs, and delineated feet in relief upon the gently curved platform. "Scioto Co, Ohio" is handwritten on the underside of the base. Size: 4.75" L x 2.375" H (12.1 cm x 6 cm)
