Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A wheel-thrown ceramic lekythos with a tiered foot, a piriform body, a rounded shoulder which tapers to a narrow tubular neck, and a thick collared rim. A fine-line netted pattern adorns the body. This netted pattern is bordered on the top with solid concentric black bands and at the center a repeating wave-form motif in fugitive white. A register of enclosed tongues encircles the bottom of the neck, with vertical bars adorning the upper neck, and thick concentric rings embellishing the inside of the rim. This is the only example of this type we have seen with the mid-body wave pattern. Size: 3.25" W x 6.625" H (8.3 cm x 16.8 cm)
