Description:

Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963), "La Charrue" (The Plow), numbered 92/150, dates to 1960 CE. A color lithograph entitled "La Charrue" (The Plow) in hues of umber and green on japon nacre paper, hand signed "G Braque" in pencil on the lower right margin and numbered "92/150" in pencil on the lower left margin, published and printed by Galerie Maeght, France. Less interested in political or social commentary than other Modernists, Georges Braque chose to concentrate more on purist explorations of composition and space. A classic artist who focused on still life painting, Braque was also revered as a colorist who influenced many Modern and Contemporary artists. Size: 11.75" L x 18.875" W (29.8 cm x 47.9 cm); including mat and frame 25" L x 28.25" W (63.5 cm x 71.8 cm)

Georges Braque is perhaps most famous for being a pioneer of Cubism, developing the avant garde style with Pablo Picasso following association with the Fauves. However, Braque had a very long career that extended well beyond the heyday of Fauvism and Cubism. Throughout his life, his oeuvre focused on still lifes, understanding and interpreting objects from various points of view and perspectives via color, texture, and line. Less interested in being a celebrity in the art world, Braque was a relatively cerebral artist known for spending lengthy periods of quite time in his studio.
