Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Late Dynastic Period, 18th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 332 BCE. A petite, turquoise-glazed faience pendant of a New Year flask exhibiting a teardrop body, a pierced suspension loop, and incised linear patterning. New Year's flask were so named because such flasks once held a liquid used in a ceremony to mark the beginning of the new agricultural year, which began in late summer, when the Nile River began to flood. A modern metal loop has been added for wearability. Size (pendant): 0.37" L x 0.36" W x 0.65" H (0.9 cm x 0.9 cm x 1.7 cm); (necklace cord): 22" L (55.9 cm)
Exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1986 to 1991; in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, October 1993 to December 1993; and in the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA), California State University, San Bernardino from 1996 to 2023, reference number EL01.270.1996.

- Condition: Wearable as shown. Faience pendant is ancient; metal loop and necklace cord are modern. Minor abrasions and minimal fading to glaze pigment, otherwise intact and near choice. Great preservation to incised details, overall form, and glaze pigment.
