Description:

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet of the lioness-headed goddess Sekhmet seated atop an integral plinth while feeding the young Horus who stands in front of her, all covered in turquoise-hued glaze. The right-facing goddess of war presents with a characteristic leonine visage surmounted with a royal uraeus cobra and framed with a wig lappet, with her left arm placed atop Horus' head, and her right offering her breast for him to suckle. Behind the throne and in front of Horus is a petite effigy of Isis - Horus' mother - who crouches and extends her winged arms forward, with a slender feather of Ma'at above her head. Size: 0.90" W x 1.59" H (2.3 cm x 4 cm)

Exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1986 to 1991; in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, October 1993 to December 1993; and in the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA), California State University, San Bernardino from 1996 to 2023, reference number EL01.223.1996.
