Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, Tonosi type, ca. 300 to 500 CE. A hand-built pottery olla with a round but stable base, a gentle carination beneath the high, sloped shoulder, and a thick, flared rim. The orange-red vessel bears neatly arranged linear motifs in black pigment that create several panels containing either concentric rectangular boxes or intricate, Z-shaped forms with curling outer tips. A pair of miniature, highly stylized frogs are situated on opposite sides of the shoulder and double as handles or suspension lugs. Size: 6.1" W x 4.875" H (15.5 cm x 12.4 cm)

  • Condition: Restoration to small area of rim, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions to rim, body, and base, with very light fading to some painted details. Great preservation to original pigment throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
