Anton Hartinger (Austrian, 1806-1890) & Beck (Austrian, active late 19th to early 20th c). "Baume" (Trees) in Hartinger's Wandtafeln. Published by Carl Gerold's Sohn, Vienna, ca. 1900. Impressively large-scale antique chromolithograph created for Anton Hartinger's "Wall Plates for the Education in Natural History". The composition features trees by the ocean with images describing the anatomy of conifers below. Anton Hartinger was an artist as well as a pioneer of chromolithography, and his "Wall Plates for the Education in Natural History" featured a series of 124 botanical and zoological chromolithographs reflecting the popularity of natural history during his lifetime. Size: 38.3" L x 28.25" W (97.3 cm x 71.8 cm)

  • Condition: "Baume" has not been examined outside the shrink wrap but appears to be in very good condition save minor crease marks and minute tears to the peripheries that do not impact the imagery. There are some collection notes handwritten in pencil at the lower margins - including "AP" which may indicate artist's proof.
