Description:

Western Asia, Persia (Iran) or possibly Syria, Ilkhanid (Il-Khanid, Ilkhanate), ca. 14th century CE. An ornately decorated ceramic bowl, hemispherical and with a tall, ring-shaped foot. The interior is painted with a brilliant decorative program comprised of geometric motifs including circles, diamonds, and spirals around a large flower motif, all in blue and black on a background of creamy white. The exterior, in contrast, features broadly spaced, thin vertical lines as its only decoration. Lovely craquelure and a faint iridescence have added to the piece with age.
