Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A beautiful textile tunic made from woven camelid fiber to display a rectangular form adorned with a central lozenge motif in hues of crimson, steel blue, maize, and aubergine. The clothing presents a rhomboid design in the middle surrounded by 3 steppe motif borders. A short fringe additionally adorns the shorter peripheries of the tunic. Size (textile): 52" L x 29.9" W (132.1 cm x 75.9 cm); (backing): 66" L x 47.3" W (167.6 cm x 120.1 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, 1995 to 2010; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, acquired from the 1950s to 1960s
