Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A large and lovely muneca figural border, tightly-woven from camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of ruby, sapphire, emerald, cream, gold, russet, espresso, navy, jet, and amethyst. The panel is comprised of fourteen muneca figures ("doll" in Spanish), each with long sweeping brown hair and stylized bodies displaying abstract step motifs across their legs and skirts. Each muneca dons a different chromatic schema on their clothing, thus making this a fabulous and vibrant example from ancient Peru! Mounted on beige fabric backing atop wooden framework. Size (munecas): 22.5" W x 5.5" H (57.2 cm x 14 cm); size (backing): 29.5" W x 9.875" H (74.9 cm x 25.1 cm).
