Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 200 to 100 BCE. A beautiful textile fragment composed of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers dyed in hues of crimson and gold. The panel is rectangular in form and boasts a series of twelve evenly-spaced rhombuses with central red spots. This fragment perhaps belonged to a larger coca bag or a piece of clothing. Mounted against a fabric-lined wooden frame. Size (textile): 6.75" W x 9.25" H (17.1 cm x 23.5 cm); size (frame): 14.5" W x 17" H (36.8 cm x 43.2 cm).
