Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. An interesting textile panel of a roughly rectangular form comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in earthy tones of burgundy, wheat, teal, sage, espresso, and cream. Presented are eight abstract trophy heads with square eyes, slender noses, concentric linear facial contours, and colorful countenances, and each are sewn onto a thin rectangular strip. Six scalps with projecting locks of twisted hair surmount the middle strip and indicates the severance of the heads from their respective bodies. Mounted on a fabric backing. Size (textile): 52.25" L x 9.5" W (132.7 cm x 24.1 cm); size (backing): 67" L x 26" W (170.2 cm x 66 cm).
