Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A fine set of two ornamental textile head wraps composed of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers. The longer wrap boasts fluffy white tufts of fur along the midsection as well as red-and-black adornments along the upper areas of the straps. The smaller ornament has several tufts of hair dyed in various vibrant hues including sage-green, wheat, vermilion, burgundy, sky-blue, and cobalt-blue. Mounted against a red fabric display panel. Size of largest (white): 11.375" W x 21.25" H (28.9 cm x 54 cm); size (display fabric): 25.75" W x 34.25" H (65.4 cm x 87 cm).
