Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto Nazca, ca. 500 BCE - 100 BCE. The ancients of the Andes held their parrots in high esteem, thought to be incarnations of sky deities for their ablity to fly well above the tree line, but also prized for their brilliant plumage. The artisan of this textile was no exception. He or she attached vibrant parrot feathers to form an abstract feline or jaguar form sitting in its center - the creature delineated in bright yellow against a contrasting dark chocolate brown which is in turn set within orange feathers with a blue feathered trim. Professionally cleaned and mounted to museum-grade linen and then attached to stretcher frame - ready to hang or frame. Textile itself measures 12 1/4"H x 10-1/4"W
