Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A gorgeous textile panel of a sizeable rectangular form composed of tightly woven camelid - alpaca or llama wool - fibers in hues of creamy beige, black, and burgundy. The ancient fabric displays a mesmerizing decoration of gingham pattern surrounded by liberal remains of a deep red border, and is comprised of 2 lengthy strips of fabric woven together along one of their vertical peripheries. A wonderful example of early Nazca textile artistry! Mounted atop a museum-quality display fabric.
