Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Proto-Maya culture, ca. 400 to 250 BCE. An intriguing anthropomorphic figure standing upon delineated, string-cut legs. Hand-carved from dark diorite, the figure holds both arms atop his chest and presents with bulging shoulders, a rounded waist, and a squat neckline. The enlarged head features recessed eyes, a bulbous nose above drilled nostrils, and deep nasolabial folds flanking the string-cut mouth. A single protuberance emanating from his brow suggests that this figure is perhaps a shaman. Size: 1.5" W x 3.1" H (3.8 cm x 7.9 cm); 3.3" H (8.4 cm) on included custom stand.
