Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Tonto Basin, Salado culture, ca. 1340 to 1450 CE. A lovely hand-built Tonto style pottery jar with a tall neck and squat, rounded body made via the coil and scrape technique. The cylindrical neck flares slightly at the rim and widens where the base meets the rest of the vessel. The surface is slipped in a red-orange hue and overpainted in hues of beige and black in wavy and linear motifs. Tonto Polychrome probably developed out of earlier Pinto and Gila Polychromes, and typically have flaring rims; however, this example with its extremely long neck is very rare. Size: 5" Diameter x 6.5" H (12.7 cm x 16.5 cm)
