Native American, Southeastern or Midwestern United States, Mississippian / Caddo culture, ca. 1400 to 1600 CE. A hand-built pottery jar exhibiting a planar base, an egg-shaped body, and a flared rim surrounding a deep interior cavity. The exterior of the rim is decorated with 9 concentric rows of crescent-shaped patterns that are perhaps representative of the moon or another celestial event. Size: 4.5" W x 5.5" H (11.4 cm x 14 cm)
