Description:

North America, Southwestern United States, Colorado, Mesa Verde, Ancestral Puebloan, ca. 1000 to 1150 CE. A fine hand built corrugated grayware olla of a rounded form with a slightly flattened rim. The attractive corrugation creates a textured pattern across the entire exterior, from rim to base. This technique requires immense skill and is a modification of the coil and scrape method. The rounded base suggests that this vessel was made to be set in a sandy floor, and likely used for cooking and preparing food. The light gray surface is adorned with dark firing clouds. Size: 12" Diameter x 15" H (30.5 cm x 38.1 cm); 16.5" H (41.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired from Morning Star Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA in 2000
