Native American, North America, southern Arizona, Phoenix basin, Hohokam culture, ca. 150 CE - 1100 CE. The Hohokam culture evolved in the deserts of southern Arizona, extending southward into extreme northern Mexico and northward as far as Flagstaff. Archaeologists believed they were influenced by Mesoamerican peoples to the south as they too built platform mounds and ball courts for ritual activities. Families lived along river drainages and these people were pioneers of irrigation as desert dwellers. Perhaps the shells used to create these bracelets were found among the river drainages. Both are adult size and possess both naturalistic and abstract details.
