Description:

North America, Alaska, Late Pleistocene, ca. 100,000 to 10,000 years ago. A well-preserved, fossilized skull fragment of a prehistoric bison that once roamed the Bering Sea area and North America! The skull has fossilized into a dark brown hue, retaining the iconic horn cores that project from the top and the slight bulge of the orbit or eye socket on the right side, while the underside and interior is a spiderweb maze of the fossilized bone structure. The bison at some point migrated from Asia across the land bridge into North America, and Bison antiquus is an extinct species directly related to modern day bison. During the Ice Age, these bison were much larger- Bison latifrons (giant bison) and Bison antiquus evolving to become smaller and smaller as the millennia passed and the climate changed. This skull is an awesome piece from the Ice Age's megafauna! Size: 11" L x 29.5" W (27.9 cm x 74.9 cm); 13" H (33 cm) on included custom stand.
