Native American, Southwestern United States, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 900 to 1300 CE. A hand-built pottery ladle with a concave handle that was perhaps used for pouring. The interior surfaces of the white-ground implement are decorated with groups of black-painted linear bands that radiate around the undecorated basin center; the lines extend all the way up the handle as well. Size: 9.4" L x 4.5" W x 1.8" H (23.9 cm x 11.4 cm x 4.6 cm)

  • Condition: Repair and restoration to roughly half of the scoop, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and nicks as expected, with light fading to original pigment, and minor pitting in scattered areas. Nice preservation to linear motif along original half of scoop.
