Description:

Native American, North America, Southwestern New Mexico, Southeast Arizona, and Northern Chihuahua region of Mexico, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), Mogollon-Mimbres tradition, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A pottery pitched shaped vessel constructed via a modified coil-and-scrape technique and a highly textured, corrugated exterior surface. The impressions are relatively scattered across the upper half of the vessel while those along the bottom half are relatively uniform. Women are thought to be the makers of pottery in this tradition, and women have been found in burials accompanied by pottery making tools, and vessels similar to this one have been found in the Starkweather Ruin in New Mexico.   • Condition: Stable fissure along lower body, with chips around rim, minor nicks to some corrugations, and light earthen deposits within recessed areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to corrugations. Previous inventory label handwritten beneath base.
