Description:

Native American, northern Arizona (Hopi region), Jeddito Black-on-Yellow (sometimes Black-on-White), ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A beautiful pottery dipper or ladle, hand-painted with fascinating decoration of sure black strokes against a light orange background. The hemispherical bowl is filled with a tondo of checkered motif surrounded by extended dashes and 2 thick bands of black just below the rim. Conversely, a zigzag striation travels down the slender, tubular handle, which is surmounted by a suspension loop for storage. Jeddito yellow ware is a form of Anasazi Pueblo pottery known for its elegant shapes, deep golden tones, and finely executed designs. Per customary practices, this ladle was made by a woman, mostly likely on Antelope Mesa and Third Mesa in Hopi land. A lovely example in exemplary condition! Size: 11.6" L x 5.2" W x 2.6" H (29.5 cm x 13.2 cm x 6.6 cm)
