Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Gallup type, Pueblo II, ca. 980 to 1150 CE. A fine pottery mug of coil-and-scrape construction exhibiting an apple-shaped lower body, a cylindrical rim, and a thick handle on the verso. The white-ground vessel is adorned with 2 serpentine bands that course across the exterior, each curve and bend filled with thin black stripes. Gallup-type pottery is associated with the Pueblo II period, when people in the area traded pottery for food with wealthy settlements such as Chaco Canyon.
