Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Pinedale Region, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), Fourmile type, ca. 1275 to 1325 CE. A beautiful pottery bowl boasting hand-painted black and white decoration on a vibrant red ground with a horizontal register of spiraling squares surrounding the exterior rim and a stylized, geometric motif on the interior basin. The ancient vessel presents a round yet stable base and sturdy walls that rise to an inward-curving rim over a deep basin. A pair of horizontal black bands flanks the spiraling square motif, while additional rings of black and white surround the interior rim. The abstract image in the basin is comprised of 3 lengthy parallel lines with rays extending from each end, connected via a shorter perpendicular striation. Size: 8.5" Diameter x 3.8" H (21.6 cm x 9.7 cm)
